Why is my truck titled as a 1959, but the body features and rating plate indicate it is a 1960 model?

Production for the 1960 model year started in September of 1959, but some States did not allow you to title the truck as a "1960 " while still in the year of 1959.  [back to top]

Are 1957-60 fenders all the same?

No.  The 1957-58 pickups had round parking lights. The fender had a half circle "cut" out to accept half of the parking light.  The 1959 and 1960 pickups had rectangular parking lights, but no "cut out" on the fenders. The ’59 had "light boxes" which butted the fender, and the ’60 parking lights were in the same spot but mounted into the lower grille.  [back to top]

My ’57 or ’58 pickup has an original looking hood scoop. Was this a factory option?

Not on pickups. The bigger trucks still used the 1957-58 style hood in 1959-60. They sported a nice hood scoop on them with a chrome trimmed screen insert. Someone either swapped hoods or installed a scoop off a big truck like the F-1100 Conventional Cab.   [back to top]

What is the first year of factory installed 4-wheel drive?

1959. The F-100 had a Ford 9" rear, while the F-250 had a Spicer 60. Both had Spicer 44-4F "Closed knuckle" front axles, and a Spicer 24 transfer case. Automatic transmissions were not available on 4x4’s. Before 1959, all 4x4 conversions were performed by an outside vendor.  [back to top]

I’ve seen a hood that was definitely a 1959, but was missing the raised portion in the center. Why is that?

The hood was re-designed for an all new look in 1959. Shortly after production had already started, it was decided to add the "raised portion" that runs down the center of the hood (front to back from the cowl to the expanded metal insert with the F-O-R-D letters on the front) for added strength.  [back to top]
